Ghoul's Glossary: Shoewhack

Shoewhack (v.) To assault someone with footwear in such a way as to humiliate that individual, especially at a moment of supposed triumph or obvious hypocrisy. A shoewhacking generally involves an element of surprise. It is especially appropriate for individuals guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors who have for reasons of wealth and power nevertheless escaped any other punishment for their iniquity.

I can see a guy spending 5 to 10 years in prison for throwing a shoe at Bush. Given Bush's appalling record over the last 8 years to have some poor fellow spend a decade in jail (AFTER Bush has left the scene)for "saluting" Bush's performance seems oddly "Bushian."

If Bush had any brains - even a smidgen - he's "ask" the Iraqi government to "forgive" the thrower. No harm no foul. Bush won't of corse - he'll say let the Iraqi's handle there own affairs.

EXACTLY what you'd expect from the murderer who invaded their country killed hundreds of thousands and send millions fleeing for their lives into exile.

Bush the world is SO looking forward to your end!

Mr. Cole, I thought I had done a good job of satire in my blog today, but your neologism is exquisitely accurate!

This seems to be the latest consequence of the shoe-throwing event:

Robert Tait in Istanbul
Stampede for 'Bush shoe' creates 100 new jobs
The Guardian, Monday 22 December 2008.

The report contains:

Ramazan Baydan, owner of the Istanbul-based Baydan Shoe Company, has been swamped with orders from across the world, after insisting that his company produced the black leather shoes which the Iraqi journalist Muntazar al-Zaidi threw at Bush during a press conference in Baghdad last Sunday.

Baydan has recruited an extra 100 staff to meet orders for 300,000 pairs of Model 271 - more than four times the shoe's normal annual sale - following an outpouring of support for Zaidi's act, which was intended as a protest, but led to his arrest by Iraqi security forces.

[...]

Orders have come mainly from the US and Britain, and from neighbouring Muslim countries, he said.

Around 120,000 pairs have been ordered from Iraq, while a US company has placed a request for 18,000. [...]

To meet the mood of the marketplace, Baydan is planning to rename the model "the Bush Shoe" or "Bye-Bye Bush".

Bush did what he does best, he ducked. I think his presidential, oh excuse me,................ had to clean up that mess, his official portrait should be of the man, bent over, dealing with a "crisis situation." Or else, the deer-in-headlights look he gave us all in F-911.

Were it not for the twins, the man would be utterly without accomplishment.

"This seems to be the latest consequence of the shoe-throwing event:"

No, actually, the latest consequences of the shoe throwing event are described below (HT Ra'ed Jarrar). While making light of this incident, let us not forget that a real human being is in real pain and real, possibly mortal, jeopardy, and let us take that part of it very, very seriously:

"According to the Iraqi Cabinet's official website, Al-Maliki met today with a number of Iraqi journalists and confirmed to them that he has received a letter from Montather Al-Ziedi where he "expressed his regret" for what he has done. Al-Maliki also claimed that Mr. Al-Zeidi "revealed the name of the person who instigated this act". Then Al-Maliki stated that "this person is a well known murderer who is linked to beheading people"."

And here (another HT to Ra'ed Jarrar for translating and publishing this):

"from Al-Baghdadia's website:

(rough translation)

"Uday Al-Zeidi, the older brother of the Al-Baghdadia's correspondent who was detained a week ago, met with Montather today. Montather told his brother that after the incident, he was beaten and kicked by the Iraqi security forces until he fainted.

"Uday told Al-Baghdadia channel during an exclusive interview this morning that the Iraqi justice system allowed him to meet his brother for more than an hour and a quarter. He confirmed that Montather told him that he was tortured with electric shock after being stripped naked, and that he was continuously humiliated and tortured throughout the period of detention, and that he had bruises all over his face and body, and that members of the Iraqi security forces disfigured his face through beatings and cigarette burns. Montather also told his brother Uday that confessions were extracted from him by force, and that he would like to bring a lawsuit against everyone who participated in his torture. Montather told Uday that he did what he did for all the Iraqi orphans, widows, children and for all the Iraqi people who where wronged.

"Montather said that if he could go back in time he would still do what he did to Bush again. Montather confirmed that he does not belong to any political parties, and that no insult was intended toward the Iraqi PM Al-Maliki.

"Al-Zaidi's brother speculated that the reason behind denying his family access to Montather during the past days was because the authorities were trying to hide what has happened to Montather because of torture.

"Finally, Uday Al-Ziedi demanded a fair neutral medical evaluation of Montather's health in detention.
"
