The Iranian Revolutionary Guards and Terrorism

At the Global Affairs group blog, Farideh Farhi tells us how Tehran is reacting to the Bush adminstration's threat to declare sections of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps a 'terrorist organization.

She argues that through such threats, Bush is merely strengthening the Iranian Right.

I've always thought Bush got the current Prez elected. If GW hadn't started with the Axis of Evil talk the "reformists" would still be leading (sorta) the country.

I can't help thinking that it's possible that this is precisely what Bush wants to do, since Iran would be more difficult to justify attacking were Ahmadinejad not in office.

The furious sabre-rattling at Iran over the last year or so has almost certainly functioned to keep the Iranian theocrats riding high.

What are the Democrats in Congress saying about this proposed "terrorist" label for the Revolutionary Guard, which will include freezing assets etc.? It seems they can't wait to line up like sheep behind Bush, shepherded no doubt by AIPAC.

Then the Revolutionary Guard responds and then what - the Democrats all line up again because they have to appear "tough" on national defense? How about another alternative - call Bush insane!
