Cole Appearance on Countdown with Keith Olbermann
Suspicions about Pentagon's Iran Weapons Story

The video of my Monday night appearance on Countdown with Keith Olbermann is now available on the Web. Scroll down to the link with my picture and click on "launch." Olbermann, at 8 pm on weekdays on MSNBC, does perhaps the best consistent job of asking hard questions about the MSM news of the day of anyone in the serious news business (i.e. other than Jon Stewart).

This worked better for me in I.E. than other browsers, and even then it took a couple of tries.

juan, i was delighted to see you on olbermann the other night. you are right--compared to the other newsanchors, he seems to be the only one who understands the day's news within a larger geopolitical context. he is also reflexively skeptical of the bush andministration, which is neccessary given its history of betrayal.

olbermann can be a bit verbose though, particularly when he asks those questions that are not-so-subtly chock-full of his own ideas. i'm afraid you were a victim of this and didn't get as much time as you should have to speak.

that said, olbermann sees the importance of the blogosphere as an antidote to the echo chamber of the MSM, and i commend him for having a real middle east expert on for a change.

The February 2007 (Canadian) Senate Committee on National Security and Defence report states on page 9 that, "where Canada is trying to have its biggest impact - in Kandahar - life is clearly ***more perilous because we are there***."

(words between asterisks are italicized in the report)

For a summary of the problems according to the Canadian Senate, and a link to the report (pdf), go to:

Professor Cole, I saw you on Olbermann and was also glad to see a real expert, instead of the usual 'Talking Heads'. I am particularly irritated by Chris Matthews, who rudely interrupts everyone; and does not allow for a reasonable reply to his ratta-tat-tat form of questioning. I want information, not the overbearing sound of Mr. Matthew's voice. At least, Keith Olbermann allowed you the courtesy of an informative reply. What a pity that the Bush Administration refuses to utilize the knowledge base of experts like yourself. Had they done so, we might not be looking at two wars going badly, and a third on the horizon. Bush refuses to admit that other cultures have their own priorities and preferences. He is the poverbial bull in a china shop, wrecking everything in his path.
